Meet Peter, Allison, and Joe.
For today’s feature, we’re sharing a few stories from Matthew St. Hilaire, Assistant General Manager
Meet The Crew: Matthew St. Hilaire, Assistant General Manager
Matthew started with Sebago Brewing eight years ago. He originally was hired as a server in the Scarborough brewpub. He moved into a management role as the dining room manager in Portland and has worked as the kitchen manager and bar manager as well. Today he serves as Assistant General Manager of our Portland brewpub. We caught up with him to learn a little bit more about his life as a Sebago employee.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I like the pressure. I enjoy being in high-pressure situations when the restaurant is at its busiest and I am needed to step up and do whatever job needs to be done to make the restaurant run as efficient as possible during those times. The pressure of making sure an event or large party runs smooth and the guests are satisfied, no matter what.
What is a favorite memory you have as a Sebago employee?
A memory that coincides with one of the favorite aspects of my job, is when we held the Sierra Nevada beer camp event at the brewpub. There were a lot of moving parts and a lot of different communication that needed to happen to make that event a success and I was asked to shoulder a lot of the load. The event was a success and it felt great that the owners recognized the hard work I had put into it and let me know how much they appreciated all of my efforts.
What does “Brewed For Times Like These” mean to you?
Versatility. No matter what occasion. From a trip down the Saco River to mowing your lawn to your wedding reception to hanging out around a campfire.
What is your favorite Sebago beer?
On my Sebagobrewing.com profile, you will find it says my favorite beer is Slick Nick. While I still very much enjoy our Long Winter Ale, I have found that over the years, my palate has matured from the more malty beers we offer to some of our more hoppy offerings. I would have to say that the Whistle Punk Double IPA has really taken over, but I would also say that with all the new beers coming out of the real men of genius out at our brewery, I will reserve my favorite tag because it might be the next creation to come to our tap lines.
Stay tuned, we’ll be sharing more stories from other members of the Sebago Brewing Crew soon! Think that Sebago Brewing Company might be the right fit for you? Check out current openings and fill out a job application here.
